The Directorate General of Policy, Planning and Risk Reduction contributes to the mandate of the Ministry through the following responsibilities:
Coordinate the development of Ministry’s plans;
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of planned activities in all departments and programs of the Ministry;
Ensure timely reporting of activities carried out;
Ensure Ministry’s comprehensive data collection, analysis and management;
Ensure development and updating of national policies, laws, strategies and plans in line with Ministry’s mandate;
Ensure implementation and monitoring of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Policy;
Establish mechanisms for collaboration and partnership with different stakeholders in disaster risk reduction and management;
Operationalize disaster management committees;
Enhance community-based disaster risk reduction initiatives;
Promote community outreach and engagement programs;
Enhance public awareness raising and capacity building;
Enhance disaster resilience and copying mechanisms;
Participate in the National Planning to ensure consideration of disaster risk reduction into sector plans and budgeting processes;
Monitor and inspect the compliance to rules and regulations relating to disaster risk reduction across the sectors;
Disseminate, monitor and upscale the implementation of mitigation and adaptation measures;
Initiate and participate in development of projects proposals relating to Policy, Planning and Risk Reduction;
Ensure reporting of the Country’s achievements regarding disaster risk reduction and management in line with regional, continental and global agendas.
